Chapter one: The Run

My name was Esephris, I left that life about 13000 years ago as a young Statesman dealing with the politics of physical science around the eastern part of Lower Egypt. When I was 16 my father along with my mentor decided to have me begin my work as a supervisor in the fields. It was a fairly decent size field of emmer, 29.184 arura. I watched over 46 slaves during the sunlight hours. Those times were hard and full of sweat. My neighbor Yassun would always come by around lunch to tell me how well he has done with his early morning production. It was rather annoying considering the fact that I could only get half of that done. I never really was into the slave herding type jobs. One day when I was close to finishing up my second season in the fields, Aluvia came by to share the birth of Horus with me. The sun had entered the underworld and I was in a day dream. Aluvia awoke me and all I could remember was looking up towards the horizon and seeing an old woman that was still harvesting. She was burnt, with dirt falling off of her back. Just as she looked up to me with those tired swollen eyes, Aluvia grabbed my attention. She had asked me what I was doing keeping my workers so long. I had no idea, I was lost in a dream I couldn’t even remember. She handed me a dinner and we talked for a while. The beautiful and young Aluvia grew up just on the other side of Yassun’s field as the daughter of a scroll maker. The Amasarie family was the main buyer of our harvest scraps so our ties ran deep. My mother often said we were eternal mates.

Now, here in this life, I remember what I was day dreaming about.
As the day ended I left Aluvia to tell Ka’a where I had been. This time I wouldn’t meet my teacher and mentor. Near the bridge just passed the city walls I fell into another dream. Now I was running to Upper Egypt. I was holding the Eye in a small pouch just over my left shoulder. The spider amulet was gone which meant only one thing, the shadows had destroyed the learning hall. Now I was really confused, what time was I in? I did not seem any older, wiser, but not older. The first day of the run in the desert sand and over rocks, was terribly hot. I had been following what I could see of the river as its glimmer shown through the canyons. It was a nearly a straight shot to the Temple of Horus. I knew night would be coming soon and if I was caught that far out of the city by the shadow cult; I would never see light again. The only defense I had was the Eye, but if held it wrong or if I tripped, they would posses it and that would be the end of light on this earth for the rest of eternity.
